Well, not really, but maybe someday! For now, my boyfriend and I did this cover of Paperback Writer by The Beatles! Enjoy :) Though this song is so simple, and I threw this together at the last minute... I really like this song and I hope you enjoy my version of it! If not, "I don't care go on and tear me apart". :) I went home for the weekend and decided to write a short poem about it! I rarely go home I'd rather just roam Around alone On ground that's my own ---however--- I do like to see Friends and family And spend some time To relax and unwind I saw my older sister, and I never get to see her I saw my little brother, and he's truly like no other My mom and stepdad, well they weren't so bad... Sometimes it's nice to look back on what we had Well, I know it wasn't the best poem, but it's what was going on in my head...Anyway, I made a cover video while I was at home, and I wanted my sister to be in it with me, but there wasn't enough time and she didn't really want to (although we did make some "rough run" videos...maybe I'll post them in the near future?) Without further ado, here's the latest video, "Untouchable" by Taylor Swift! I hope that everyone had a fantastic Fourth of July with fireworks, family, and friends! After all of the fun, I edited this video together and threw in a little something special to celebrate 'Murica (the beads that I use to create the percussion are patriotic colors!) So check out this video of "Here Comes Your Man" originally by the Pixies (but my cover is more similar to Meaghan Smith's version). I met more famous people than I have ever met in one day. And I didn't even know what to say. So I ended up fangirling and blabbering things like "you're so awesome" and "I love you" instead of saying what I really wanted to say like "you are such an inspiration" and "I love your music"...and stuff like that. Not that it really matters. But I hugged them! And I had a casual conversation with Ingrid...she's so cool. They're all so down-to-earth. And the event was crazy big & amazing & I was so happy to be able to be a part of Red Hot & Boom 2014! Maybe someday I'll be able to play at an event like this! I got to talk on the air for quite a bit! And even though I was being picked on...it was a lot of fun. I also got to SING on the air! My a cappella group (KeyHarmony) was featured, one of my YouTube covers was featured, and my website (http://www.lexiloumusic.com/) was featured as well! Thank you to The News Junkie for letting me be a part of your show! If you want to hear, check out the first half of this podcast below! A post about winter in the summer? That makes no sense! But it does...it's the name of a beautifully sad song by Kina Grannis that really touches my heart. I feel so much when I hear it and sing it. From the moment I first heard the song, before she even released her new album, I loved it. She was inspired by dead flowers when writing this song. These are the types of songwriting skills I hope to be able to gain and use someday for my songs. Anyway, here it is, my cover of Winter. Sorry for the strange angle, I was recording it on a video camera and couldn't see myself, so I didn't know it looked weird. Also I know it's not perfect and I probably sound bad at a lot of parts, but just try to look past that lol. I recorded the guitar and percussion parts separately beforehand in garageband, then recorded the singing/video, then did some harmonies over. Let me know what you think! Thank you for watching <3 I've decided to start a thing on my blog called "Today at my internship..." And anytime something interesting/out of the ordinary happens at my internship, I will post about it here! Starting with today...today was a very interesting day! I'm interning with a radio show called The News Junkie on Real Radio 104.1 with hosts Shawn, C-Lane, and Sabrina. Today I slapped C-Lane and Sabrina slapped Shawn on the air...and it was really funny. Check out the big slap (Sabrina v. Shawn) below! If you want to hear why there was slapping, and listen to my slap(s) live, check out the podcast below!
So in honor of her, and her new baby, I am posting my cover of one of Kelly's songs "My Life Would Suck Without You"!
Also, I'm posting a pretty happy/smiley video of my original song, "With You" to further counteract the normal negative/scary connotations of "Friday the 13th". The harmonies I recorded over could be considered "haunting" (since they're a little weird, maybe minor at some parts), but other than that, it's a really light song with a nice, joyful message. I hope you can relate to the words and I hope you enjoy this video! Thank you for watching & reading. You rock :D Yesterday we entered our family business, The Olive Grove of Venice into the Fast Company: Drive Your Business Forward contest to win a FREE Mercedes Sprinter Van! My mom gave me some footage to work with and edit, and I wrote a script to help give her some ideas/inspiration. My little brother, Alan, filmed a lot of the video. This was a family effort! We found out about the contest pretty late, but we whipped together something that could hopefully have a chance of winning! Our business has really been struggling, and the van would let The Olive Grove go completely mobile to save our business. Please watch our short, 90 second entry to learn more about The Olive Grove. News! I've decided to post videos I'm posting to YouTube to my blog every Friday! I am always not the most confident person...and I often think my videos aren't that good. But if I'm posting them to YouTube, I might as well post them to my website. Especially if I want to get more serious about music. I know they're not all perfect, but they're a part of me...and they're good practice! I'm going to be doing covers every week and soon I'll be posting more originals! If you like my style, please subscribe to my channel! This is a cover of one of my favorites, Bubbly by Colbie Caillat. My mom recorded this at our store in Venice, Florida over winter break. I've been missing my family lately, and reminiscing old memories...so I'm kind of posting this in honor of that. Let me know what you think! And as always, thank you for watching! :) I am a huge fan of Kina Grannis. And about a week ago she started a photo contest for her new album, Elements. She said she would post the winning photo every day for a week, and that the winner would receive a surprise in the mail. We were instructed to take nature photos and put lyrics of her songs on the photo and then post them to Twitter/Instagram. I didn't really use Twitter or Instagram before this contest, but I have been using the crap out of them this past week, and spamming the few followers I have on them with lots of pictures. Kina commented on 3 of my photos on Twitter and I was ecstatic! But just when I thought the contest was over and I'd given up on trying to win...Kina extended the deadline! So yesterday I made a bunch more photos (see below for ALL of the photos I entered)... And Kina picked the last photo I entered! It was pretty late and I was watching New Girl, and then I started writing, and as I was writing a song/poem thing...I got some notifications on my phone... So naturally, I started freaking out...But I thought this was so exciting and so cool I just had to blog about it! This whole contest was so much fun, and I think it's so amazing that Kina looked at the photos people were posting and connected to them and even commented and liked a lot of them! She is the best and such an inspiration to so many (especially me!)
Well now I'm actually going to blog more!
I've been feeling like I have a lot to say lately, whether that be through written text, pictures, videos, audio recordings or other methods of communication...I want to get my thoughts out there. I also want to share my experiences and what's going on in my life, more for own memory...kinda like an online public diary I guess. Which is kinda weird since that's what pretty much all blogs and social media sites are...but don't worry, I won't bore you with details like "I pooped today!" (although poop is a funny word, and I did poop today) I'll only say the things that I think may be relevant to you or at least hopefully relatable (although I'm sure many can relate to pooping...) Anyway, my point is, I'm not going to post every little detail of my day because that's dumb and nobody cares about that crap. I will, however, be posting some things that are going on in my life, and I'll probably post creations/works that I think people might want to see/read/listen to. So, stay tuned! Today I realized that I haven't updated my site in a while, and I haven't posted to my blog in FOREVER! So, I decided to change that. I mean it when I say I'm going to blog more. I've already pushed myself to make more videos this month on YouTube (I've been posting videos EVERY DAY OF THIS MONTH - check it out http://www.youtube.com/user/lexilouforyou). With that being said...be on the lookout! More blog posts about the happenings in my life and the thoughts from my mind are headed your way! Have a great day! :)
Well the holidays are coming up, and Thanksgiving just passed. So I thought now might be a good time to write a blog post. And I skipped a month of blogging...But, no worries, I am still here! (for whoever is out there reading these). Right around this time of year, if you're in college like me, you're probably stressing out about finals. Your life right now might be going something like this: http://www.buzzfeed.com/spenceralthouse/the-33-stages-of-finals-week-a078. Lol I love buzzfeed. And for pretty much everyone out there...holiday shopping is probably on your mind. Maybe you went Black Friday shopping, or maybe you are Cyber Monday shopping as I am typing this post. I am more of a browser than a buyer, but I do enjoy a good deal. I am also pretty weird and enjoy watching/listening to commercials; when everyone else is changing the channel, I am paying attention to how the ads are crafted, who they are targeting, and whether or not I think they are effective. Speaking of ads, I wrote TV and radio ads for a lawn mower as an assignment, and although I knew nothing about lawn mowers when I started, I think it came out pretty good! Who knows? Maybe it'll convince you to buy one! If so, I should be getting paid for this :P Anyway, let me know what you think.
Time for a more traditional-style blog post! Texting while driving is a very relevant subject for today's ramblings. On the first of this month, a new law was passed in Florida making texting while driving a secondary offense. The law bans only manual texting while driving (so, you can still use voice-to-text, and technically you aren't "driving" when you're sitting at a stop light/sign or in traffic). I am really curious to see how this law is enforced, if it makes much of a difference in helping prevent accidents, and if people choose to follow the law. I also wonder how officials plan to prove that the driver was actually texting when they were pulled over...will police officers take our phones? Is this going to become an issue of rights and privacy violation? What are your thoughts on the issue? Do you think we should/shouldn't have a law like this? Is it necessary? I recently wrote two PSAs (one for TV and one for radio) for my Writing for the Electronic Media class (see below).
Some recent events in my life have lead me to write this poem.
What is reality Is it what's real to me Do you see the same real I see Do you feel what real can be Through realization by experimentation or Through recommendation by explanation Sometimes it hurts To accept and admit truth At times it's hard To escape from your youth Growing means knowing more than you did before Showing you're ready for what life has in store Reality can help put you back on track What's real is real, recognize it as fact No more fantasy lands or helping hands Reality hits you hard in the face You're alone, no track to trace To pave your own path is your only choice Realize all you have is your one voice Versus everyone else in existence or Join together for resistance Against the system and reality's ways of bringing down Gain wisdom and turn everything around I thought I would start off my blog with some random things I contemplated while at the pool the other day...a glimpse inside my journal and mind...really simple concepts at face value, but quite complex when you really delve into them. Also, they are very broad topics. The writing flow is a little choppy, but it signifies how my mind flip flopped and questioned.
Thoughts about... Living life...How does one do so? Chase after things Seek success Long to be loved Have unfulfilled expectations, Hopes, dreams As well as fears, limitations Talk, but no action or Exist simply Worry-free Leading and learning Loving Enjoying the environment Capturing the moment in mind Seizing civilization in spirit Love...What does it mean? To love, to be loved, to give love, to take love, to make love, to have love? Do you need to love yourself before you can love others? How does one love oneself? Can you love someone who doesn't love his/herself? Will he/she love you back? Can love fade? What happens if love fades? Are there different shades of love? Degrees, conditions, restrictions, rules How do you love? How do you show love? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What are your thoughts? |
